An interview with Xiomara Napoleon:
TEG – Xiomara, kindly tell us about Stella & Dot.
X.N. – Stella & Dot is a jewelry line and it gets its name from the owners’ grandmothers. Therefore, the designs are vintage inspired, although very modern at the same time. The same factories that make Christian Dior and Coach make our jewelry as well, so it’s very high-end but it’s also very affordable; some of our designs are under $50 dollars.
TEG – Yes, the prices are very affordable considering the high quality of the craftsmanship. I understand that even celebrities have already gotten their hands on Stella & Dot’s designs.
X.N. – That’s why I love the line; because it allows everyday women to have something that they see on magazines and on celebrities and they can make it their own. Like you mentioned before, celebrities wear our line, like Penelope Cruz, Halle Berry, Paris Hilton, and The Real Housewives of Orange County. InStyle Magazine has our jewelry featured almost every month. We’ve been on Redbook, People Magazine, Marie Claire, and other press. I’m super excited because I’ve heard from the grapevine that Vogue is going to feature our fall collection as well.
TEG – Congratulations! We’re here today because you’re hosting a “Trunk Show.” Tell us about these trunk shows and what they entail.
X.N. – I do a lot of events like these and today I am hosting my trunk show at My Best Friend’s Closet to display my jewelry. They have provided me with a section in their store so I can set up my collection like a small boutique. My friends and prospect clients come to my events to try on the jewelry, drink, eat, try on clothes along with the jewelry, and mainly have fun. But the core of my business, and one that I fully enjoy, is my at-home trunk shows. Anybody can invite their girlfriends, usually 10 women or more, and they can have champagne, wine, hor d’oeuvres, and have a great time. It’s very intimate.
TEG – Since you are a stylist expert, tell us what type of jewelry you think it’s most appropriate to wear, for example, at a job interview or on a first date.
X.N. – For a job interview, our huge hit is our Charlotte necklace (which is on sale right now) because pearls are always appropriate. This necklace goes very well with a business suit and even with something a little more casual. You can make the pearls pop and make yourself stand out. For a first impression, pearls are definitely a classic choice. For a first date it depends on your personality. You can be conservative or a little more avant-garde. You probably want to be more casual or maybe you want to be flashy. Our Revival design is beautiful for a casual, laid-back look as well as the Awakening which is more of a hobo-chic type of look with nice heels and a nice top. If you want to be extra-fabulous and really impress the guy, our Bamboleo is a truly amazing piece, and, if you wear this, you really don’t need anything else.
TEG – Xiomara, your display is amazing, the pieces are timeless and fabulous, you look gorgeous, and I must say, your makeup is outstanding. Thank you very much for having me here today. I’ve really enjoyed your trunk show.
Style over Quantity
Nothing says timeless or classic like a set of pearls. Just make sure not to get all pearled out. Select everything you wear with grace, style, and elegance. You don’t want to mix the wrong pieces, and you certainly don’t want to overdo the look. If you wear an impressive design, nothing else is necessary.
I remember one time I wore a very ornate and elaborate necklace, and I didn’t pair it up with anything else. The less you have, the more attention is called to that special piece.
